Wildfires dataset

Future wildfires hazard

Overview

A global dataset at 0.1° degrees resolution of three wildfires indicators from five climate models under three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) scenarios from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sith Assessment report (AR6). The time resolution is annual from 1981 to 2100.

IndicatorsThe wildfires danger indicators are based on the Canadian Fire Weather System.
Fire Weather Index: A measure of the general wildfire intensity. and considered as the general index of fire danger. The unit is a numeric rating.
Fire Extreme Danger days: Annual count of days when the FWI exceeds the 99th percentile threshold. The unit is days.
Fire season length: Annual count of days when the FWI exceeds half of the 99th percentile threshold. The unit is days.
FormatNetcdf

Supplementary information

The wildfires hazard is evaluated with wildfire danger indicators based on the Fire Weather Index (FWI), a fire weather indicator as defined by the Canadian Fire Weather System. The  FWI is central to the three indicators of the dataset as one is the  FWI annual average and the two others are frequency indicators calculated from daily values of the FWI.
